Bon à savoir
- The short legs come from a natural mutation recorded since at least the 1940s.
- Some registries refuse to recognise the breed on welfare grounds.
- Munchkins run and play readily; they simply cannot jump as high.
À qui convient-elle ?
Owners who have weighed the welfare argument and will make the home easy to get around.
Entretien
Ordinary coat care. Add ramps or steps, and keep weight down to spare the joints and spine.
Histoire de la race
Short-legged cats were recorded in Britain in the 1940s and lost in the war. The modern breed began with a pregnant stray found under a truck in Louisiana in 1983. Recognition was contested from the start and several registries still refuse it.
