Bon à savoir
- Found in New Mexico in 1984 in a feral tortoiseshell cat.
- Unlike other blue-eyed cats, the colour is not tied to white markings or the point pattern.
- Breeding is restricted because two copies of the gene cause serious defects.
À qui convient-elle ?
Enthusiasts prepared for a long wait and a careful breeder; it is barely available at all.
Entretien
Ordinary care for the coat. Any breeder should explain the genetics before selling a kitten.
Histoire de la race
A feral tortoiseshell cat with deep blue eyes was found in New Mexico in 1984. Breeding revealed that the gene is dominant and that two copies are lethal, so the programme has stayed tiny and the breed is barely present outside a few catteries.
