Good to know

  • Created in the 1970s from Burmese, Abyssinian and Australian domestic cats.
  • The pattern sits over a misted ticking, which is where the name comes from.
  • Bred deliberately to be content living indoors.

Who it suits

Flat dwellers and families with small children; it tolerates handling well.

Care

Minimal grooming. Indoor life suits it, so plan for play sessions rather than outdoor roaming.

History of the breed

Developed in Sydney from 1976 by Truda Straede, who crossed Burmese, Abyssinian and domestic cats over nine generations. It was first called the Spotted Mist; marbled cats were added in 1998 and the breed was renamed.
