Documents You’ll Need

Every destination country sets its own rules, and some of them start months before departure. These are the documents most often required:

  1. 1

    International Health Certificate

A USDA Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI), issued by an accredited vet and endorsed by USDA APHIS shortly before travel.

  2. 2

    ISO-Compliant Microchip

Most countries require an ISO 11784/11785 microchip implanted before the rabies vaccination is given.

  3. 3

    Rabies Vaccination Certificate

Proof of a current rabies vaccine. Many countries require it after the microchip date, plus a waiting period (often 21+ days) before travel.

  4. 4

    Rabies Titer (FAVN) Test

Required by rabies-controlled destinations (e.g. UK, Japan, Australia, Hawaii) from an approved lab, sometimes with a months-long waiting period.

  5. 5

    Import Permit

Some destination countries require a permit applied for in advance, separate from the health certificate.

  6. 6

    Customs & Airline Declaration Forms

Border and airline paperwork required for your cat to fly as cargo or in-cabin.
