Good to know

  • The coat has only the soft down layer; the guard hairs are missing entirely.
  • Traces back to one kitten born on a Cornish farm in 1950.
  • Feels warm to the touch because so little coat lies between you and the skin.

Who it suits

Owners who want an athletic, clownish cat and a warm home to keep it in.

Care

Do not brush hard — the coat is delicate. Keep the cat warm and out of cold draughts.

History of the breed

A curly kitten named Kallibunker was born in a barn litter in Cornwall in 1950. His owner, on a vet's advice, bred him back to his mother, and the whole breed descends from that pairing. British stock was later crossed with Siamese to widen the gene pool.
