Good to know
- The first curly kitten was born bald in 1982 and grew a curled coat later.
- Curls range from soft waves to tight ringlets, loosest around the neck.
- Kittens may shed their coat entirely before it comes back curled.
Who it suits
People wanting an affectionate, low-shedding cat with a coat that stands out.
Care
Do not brush hard: fingers or a wide comb keep the curl. Bathe rarely.
History of the breed
A bald kitten was born in a barn litter in The Dalles, Oregon in 1982 and grew a curly coat over the following months. Her owner, Linda Koehl, let the line breed on freely for a decade before starting a formal programme.
