Good to know
- Developed in Britain from Siamese crossed with other shorthairs.
- Comes in both short and long coats.
- As talkative as the Siamese, with the same strong attachments.
Who it suits
People who are home often and want a cat with a great deal to say.
Care
Almost no grooming for the shorthair. Company, climbing and play are what it really needs.
History of the breed
British breeders after the Second World War crossed Siamese with Russian Blues, Abyssinians and domestic shorthairs, first to rebuild depleted lines and then to produce Siamese-shaped cats in every colour. The results were recognised as a breed in the 1970s.
