Good to know

  • Created in St Petersburg in 1994 from a Donskoy and an Oriental Shorthair.
  • Coats range from completely bare to a soft brush; some change over the first years.
  • Webbed toes let it hold and open things with surprising skill.

Who it suits

Owners who want a devoted, talkative cat and can keep a warm, sun-safe home.

Care

Wipe or bathe weekly, keep warm, and protect bare skin from sunburn.

History of the breed

Olga Mironova crossed a Donskoy with an Oriental Shorthair in St Petersburg in 1994. The first litter produced the type she wanted at once, and Russian registries recognised the breed by 1996 — unusually quick for a new cat.
