  • Moves with a distinctive, almost dog-like trot.

Who it suits

Owners who want an unusual, active cat and can provide climbing and company.

Care

Minimal grooming for the thin coat. Keep it warm — it comes from an equatorial climate.

History of the breed

In 1978 Jeni Slater found a litter of unusual kittens on her coconut plantation near the Arabuko-Sokoke forest in Kenya. Local Giriama people knew the cats well. Danish breeders took the line on in the 1980s, with further imports from Kenya in 2000.
